Once again I am late, but I’ll be working in catching up.
This episode was all about a little outing that Shin has with Eiko. It shows some cute flashbacks of their relationship together, but the big things that are revealed in this episode don’t really involve Eiko or Shin that much.
We find out a little more about Jun again, though it is not about his powers or persona. This reveals the mystery of Yuki appearing through Jun’s body. Apparently when the brothers were younger there was a terrible accident that put Yuki and Jun in the hospital. Yuki was fatally wounded while Jun has a severe head injury. It was either lose both siblings or sacrifice Yuki to save Jun. Thus Ryou had to make the difficult decision, being the oldest, of putting some of Yuki’s brain into Jun in order to save one. This explains a little of why Jun is capable of talking to Yuki or channel her. This might also explain a little bit of his power. Yuki’s brain matter may not be the only residing aspect of his twin sister. A lingering soul may be present, but that is sheer speculation.
Second thing revealed will probably play out to be a whopper. I can’t believe I didn’t notice it before. This show has heavy ties to the sea. The persona’s might even be linked directly to contact with this certain sea. This idea is mostly because of whale feathers and Eiko’s past experience of diving. When she was diving, she was separated from the rest of the group and became disoriented. She followed a light and whale feathers to a song. Turns out this experience directly reflects the picture book about whale feathers.
In short: there’s a winged girl in the ocean who is really happy because she can hear the ocean’s song. A boy goes and gets close to the song and finds a whale feather. When he comes back to his village, the feather reminds everyone of their happiest times causing everyone to up and leave or disappear.
It’s a pretty depressing story in my opinion. In the end, Shin has this same experience. He finds himself in the ocean when he is really konked out on a boat. He hears singing and follows the music through streams of whale feathers. He heads straight into the light and encounters the mysterious girl that has been appearing at random times. Only this time she’s in white and is reaching out to him. Her clothes change back into red and she slips away.
That was one trippy apparition. I woulda been pretty freaked out if that’d happened to me. To make things worse, Shin awakes to the entire surrounding waters to be so densely covered in the feathers that it looks like the boat is on a cloud. Pretty? Yes. Scarey? Mmmm, depends on you.
